Windows 10 Version 20H2 is the first company to have the redesigned Microsoft Edge browser installed by default. The browser is now based on Chromium, Google’s open source foundation for the Chrome browser, which makes it compatible with more websites than the old version.

There are other benefits as well. The new Edge browser includes a privacy feature that tries to block websites that you track online – much like Mozilla’s Firefox browser. The Collections feature makes it easier for you to collect information from various websites while you research.

To use the Edge Browser’s new privacy settings: You use the new Edge browser much the same as any other browser. Navigate to the logo in your system tray or via the start menu. It appears as a circular crashing wave that colors blue, green, and aqua, similar to the old blue Internet Explorer icon “e”.

To set up your privacy features, go to Settings> Privacy and Services. You will see three options to prevent tracking: Basic (allows most trackers), Balanced (blocks trackers from websites you haven’t visited – Microsoft recommends these), and Strict (blocks the majority of trackers from all sites).

To check your data protection settings during operation, click on the lock symbol to the left of the search bar when using the browser. A box will appear to let you know if your connection is secure. You can check the site certificate, the cookies used and the site permissions. You can also turn tracking prevention on or off and manage the setting for all the websites you visit. When this option is enabled, the number of trackers blocked by the browser is displayed.

To Use the Edge Browser Collections Feature: When you’ve navigated to a page that you want to save, click the icon that looks like a “+“in a box to the right of the search bar. This will open the collections window on the right of your screen. Click Start a new collectionand rename it as you like. You can click Add current page to save the webpage you are on. You can also click and drag an image from the page into the collection, as well as select and drag text and add your own notes. Click the three dot to export your collection to Word or Excel share and more Icon at the top of the collection.

2. Customize your new start menu

The new start menu changes the appearance of the tiles.

The classic Windows start menu will be updated in the October 2020 update. The new version offers a more optimized design and replaces the single-color backplates behind the logos in your apps list with partially transparent backgrounds, so that the symbols come into their own. The colors also change depending on whether you are using the light or dark mode.

To customize the new start menu: If you’d like to add an accent color to make your tiles match your desktop theme, you can go too Settings> Personalization> Color and activate the accent color in Start, Taskbar and Action Center.

3. Open all tabs at the same time

Show all tabs at once by pressing Alt + Tab.

The update lets you open all of your tabs in Edge with one simple command, rather than just the active ones in each browser window. This makes it easier to get a full view of all open windows, rather than just one. You can also configure it to only show your last three or five tabs, or turn it off entirely. However, at least for now, it only works with the Edge browser.

To customize your tabs: Press to open all of the tabs in Edge at the same time Alt + Tab. Go to to configure your tab settings or to disable the feature Settings> System> Multitasking. You’ll see a drop-down menu of options for what Alt + Tab does.
