Travel can increase your chance of spreading and getting Covid-19. CDC continues to recommend postponing the trip and staying home as it is the best way to protect yourself and others this year
Washington: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have urged the public to avoid travel and stay home during the Christmas holidays to help curb the further spread of the novel coronavirus.
“Travel can increase your chance of spreading and getting Covid-19. CDC continues to recommend postponing the trip and staying at home, as this is the best way to protect yourself and others this year, ”Xinhua News Agency quoted the CDC in its latest advisory opinion on Wednesday.
The safest way to celebrate winter vacation is to stay at home with the people who live with you.
“Have a virtual feast with friends and family, meet for a virtual gift exchange, decorate your home or do some festive handicrafts,” said the CDC.
The recommendation came as the country continued to see an unabated surge in new coronavirus cases, deaths and hospitalizations.
In its last update Thursday morning, Johns Hopkins University announced that the country’s total cases and death toll were 18,455,656 and 326,088, respectively.
The two numbers are the highest in the world and make the US hardest hit by the pandemic.
Over 1,511,000 cases have been reported in the US in the past seven days, according to the CDC.
The 7-day average of new daily cases was now close to 216,000 cases, and the 7-day average of deaths was over 2,600, according to the CDC.
According to the latest data from the COVID Tracking Project, 117,777 people are currently hospitalized with Covid-19 in the U.S.
The country launched its Covid-19 vaccine campaign after the Food and Drug Administration approved two emergency vaccines.
