The COVID-19 mortality risk calculation tool was developed by researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, including those from India.

The study, published in the Nature Medicine JournalThe tool enables individuals, communities and affected authorities to determine the risk factor by analyzing socio-demographic and pre-existing conditions for the population. The calculator is available online to interested individuals and health officials, allowing users to determine the risk factor based on information such as age, gender, race, and gender, as well as pre-existing conditions within the same community.

“We customized the tool to produce absolute risk estimates in future time frames by incorporating information on pandemic dynamics at the community level. We applied the model to risk factor distribution data from various sources to estimate the risk for the general adult population in 477 project US cities and for Medicare populations 65 and over in 3,113 US states, “the study says.
