Hollywood rarely releases a film that has no (or more) alternative endings. As an audience, we don’t always see these alternate versions unless they happen to be included in a special Blu-ray edition of the film.
Sometimes they don’t differ much from the original endings. But every now and then you will come across one that will lead you to see the film in a whole new light.
The underrated film Scott pilgrim against the world had two alternate endings that not many people knew about. One of them, like most of them, is not too far from the theatrical version. One of the alternatives, however, changes the way you portray the protagonist of the film.

Scott pilgrim against the world was an action comedy based on the graphic novel series. The film accompanies the bass player Scott Pilgrim on a fun journey with insane exes and music competitions.
Scott’s rock band Sex Bob-Omb dated Knives Chau at the beginning of the film. He soon meets Ramona Flowers, a delivery woman, and is immediately enthusiastic. He’s even more fond of Ramona because he actually dreamed about her before he met her.
When Sex Bom-Omb enters a band fight, Scott is attacked by one of Ramona’s exes. After defeating his enemy, he learns that if he wants to date her, he will actually have to defeat six more of her evil exes. Ramona’s exes include a skateboard actor, ninja, and record exec.
As if battling the psycho exes of his new love wasn’t bad enough, Scott also has a run-in with his own ex, pop star Envy Adams. Not only did Envy brutally drop Scott and break his heart, she happened to be dating one of Ramona’s exes. She claimed to know a lot of dirty information about Ramona that she happily shares with Scott.
How did “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” end?
In the film, Scott runs to the Chaos Theater to face Ramona’s last ex, Gideon. The two become embroiled in a video game smackdown, and Scott notices that Knives attacked Ramona. He runs to end the violence between the girls and reveals that he cheated on both of them. Before he can apologize, Gideon’s sword stabs Scott in the back.
Scott wakes up in a desert where he sees Ramona and learns that Gideon has controlled her mind with a chip that he has built into her back. At the beginning of the film, Scott had earned an extra life defeating two of Ramona’s exes. He used the extra life to undo his death and went back to the moment he stormed into the Chaos Theater.
This time around, Scott realizes the damage he’s done and solves numerous problems with his friends. Again he reveals to Knives and Ramona that he cheated on them, but he quickly apologizes and spreads the fight between the girls. Gideon attacks Scott, but Knives and Ramona help him. Gideon injures Ramona and Knives, and Scott gets angry and eventually defeats him.
Scott then has to face the darker version of himself, Nega Scott. There’s an anti-climax where Scott befriends his darker self and the movie has a happy ending. Scott decides to start over with Ramona and the two leave to start a new relationship.
What was the alternate ending for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World?
There were two alternative ending options for the film. The original ending was shown in a trial version of the film, and the main difference was that Scott ended up with Knives rather than Ramona. The scene shows Scott meeting Knives and in the distance he sees Ramona. Ramona leaves and Scott kisses Messer.
The other alternate ending was never filmed. In that version, the ending would have shown that the whole situation was a dream. Scott was actually a serial killer who murdered seven people and then made up the video game scenario. The plan was to have a local news channel covering the murders.
