Digital technology company Tata Communications on Wednesday said it has acquired a 58.1 percent stake in French eSIM company Oasis Smart SIM Europe SAS (Oasis). The company, however, did not say how much it had spent for the acquisition. Oasis develops and sells modern technology and personalized services for the use of eSIM and SIM technology.
Tata Communications said that with this investment, eSIM technology will be fully integrated into Tata Communications’ connectivity solution offering. eSIM provides secure, reliable and inexpensive cellular connectivity for Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. A new connection can be activated remotely over eSIM unlike traditional SIMs. The customer does not need to visit any contact center of the company.
Number of opportunities in eSIM market
The chief strategy officer of Tata Communications, Tri Pham, said the increase in the number of M2M connections across the world suggests that there are tremendous opportunities in the eSIM market. According to estimates, by 2025, 2 billion eSIM enabled devices will be sold.
