Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other members of his party left a session of the Parliamentary Defense Committee on Wednesday, claiming that the panel’s time had been wasted discussing the uniform of the armed forces instead of the crucial issue of national security.
Gandhi was not allowed to speak at the meeting of the panel’s chairman, Jual Oram (BJP), as he tried to address the issues of Chinese aggression and better equip soldiers at the border in Ladakh.
The sources said the issue of army, navy and air force uniforms was discussed in the presence of the Chief of Staff of Defense, Gen Bipin Rawat, when Gandhi intervened to say that the political leadership should consider the issues facing the national people instead of discussing security and how to strengthen the forces fighting the Chinese in Ladakh.
The chairman of the committee refused to allow Gandhi to speak and the leader of the congress decided to go out. Congress members Rajeev Satav and Revanth Reddy left the meeting with their chairman.
