US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo criticized China for restricting Uyghur religious freedom.
In an interview with Wake Up America’s Rob Schmitt, Pompeo accused China of treating a million Uighur Muslims in absolutely devastating ways, equating it with the Nazi ethnic cleansing of Jews in Germany in the 1930s.
“China, which is devastatingly bad, is treating a million Uighur Muslims in an absolutely devastating way, things we haven’t seen since Germany in the 1930s,” Pompeo said.
Various testimonials from the non-Chinese world show that Beijing actually stepped up its operations against Uyghurs by placing more people in detention centers during the pandemic.
In fact, Uighur Muslims in Chinese “re-education camps” have to eat pork every Friday, said Sayragul Sautbay, who was one of the victims of the atrocities committed by the Chinese government.
In response to a question from Schmitt regarding the effects of the coronavirus on churches, synagogues, places of worship that have been closed or closed, and how repressive regimes like China are using the situation to their advantage to suppress Uyghurs, Pompeo confirmed freedom of religion as one of the fundamental rights.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we have done on religious freedom. It is this most basic right, this human right, from which all others arise. When you are given the right to religious freedom and tolerance of people of faith, so many good things will happen in your country. We worked on it – so we worked hard on religious freedom, ”noted Pompeo.
He also pointed out that executives around the world are opening bars and casinos, but are still not allowed to open places of worship.
“It is very disheartening to see leaders use a coronavirus excuse to open bars and casinos but not allow places of worship, people rallying for their beliefs,” he said.
