Mumbai Police began investigating after the BARC rating agency filed a complaint about the manipulation of TRP through some channels.

TRP, as measured by recording viewer data in sample households, is critical as it helps television channels attract advertisers.

It has been alleged that some of these households have been bribed to use certain channels to increase their TRP.
