OPPO Reno5 Pro + 5G with Sony IMX766 sensor, SD865, 65W fast charge and more

The OPPO Reno5 Pro + 5G has just been launched. It’s the company’s newest flagship and has top-notch specs like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, Sony’s high-end IMX766 image sensor, and other notable features.


The Chinese tech giant held a conference today (December 24, 2020) at which the premium handset was officially unveiled. One of the salient features is the cameras. The main lens is an IMX766 sensor jointly developed with Sony. The sensor can absorb 63.8 percent more light compared to the IMX586 sensor. This results in brighter and clearer photos and videos. This sensor has a 1.0 μm pixel and is approximately 1 / 1.56 inch in size.

The device has a quad camera module on the back with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 13-megapixel telephoto shooter and a 2-megapixel Marco sensor. The telephoto lens offers a 5x hybrid zoom. In addition, the OPPO Reno5 Pro + 5G supports DOL-HDR (Digital Overlay Dynamic Range Technology), which improves the dynamic range as well as the image and video quality when recording.

The front of the Reno5 Pro + 5G has a 32-megapixel selfie shooter in a hole-punch display. In addition, the smartphone supports omnidirectional full-pixel focusing technology with a unique 2 × 2 pixel structure that enables faster and more precise focusing. This also enables tracking of video locks that lock onto a static subject for better stabilization while focus tracking.


Technical data and features

The display of the OPPO Reno5 Pro + 5G is a curved 6.5-inch FHD + display with a high refresh rate of 90 Hz. Under the hood, the device is run by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage is coupled. The device is powered by a large 4,500 mAh battery that supports fast charging of up to 65 W. In terms of thickness, the device measures just 7.9mm and weighs 184 grams. A three-dimensional VC liquid cooling system is also housed for cooling.


Price and availability

The OPPO Reno5 Pro + 5G costs 3,999 yuan (about 612 US dollars) for the memory variant 8 GB RAM and 128 GB and 4,499 yuan (about 690 US dollars) for 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. It will be officially launched on December 29, 2020 and is available in black or white in two colors. In particular, the company is working with well-known artist Joshua Vides on a limited edition of the device, also priced at 4,499 yuan. Pre-orders will start on January 18, 2020 and go on sale on January 22, 2020.
