More monoliths around the world, what are they?

Monoliths have appeared in surprising locations in recent weeks, including an American desert, a British beach, and a Belgian field.

Several of these tall, shiny pillars have been found in locations around the world without warning or explanation since mid-November.

The first was discovered in the United States when a helicopter crew flying over a remote part of a Utah desert counting sheep discovered a strange statue underneath.

The structure disappeared a few days after it was first discovered near the Petrodava-Dacian Fortress, a local archaeological landmark in northern Neamt Land.

A metal monolith mysteriously appeared in the middle of a field in Baasrode, Belgium, in December.

Strange tall structures have also appeared in Spain, Germany, and Colombia since the first monolith in the United States.

Back in the UK, one with the words “Not Banksy” appeared on top of Glastonbury Tor.

When the mystery shrouded the first monoliths, an anonymous collective called The Most Famous Artist took note of those in Utah and California and sells multiple replicas for $ 45,000 (£ 34,000) each.

However, when asked about the Isle of Wight structure, it said, “The monolith is out of my control at this point. We thank all the extraterrestrials who are working hard around the globe to spread the myth. “

Tom Dunford, 29, told the BBC about his location: “If the aliens came down, they would choose the safest place, which is the Isle of Wight in Tier 1 [Covid restrictions]. ”

The structures have sparked comparisons with the film 2001: A Space Odysseywhere an alien monolith is a recurring symbol that appears to play a role in the development of human evolution.

Bret Hutchings, a helicopter pilot who first spotted the Utah monolith, told local news channel KSLTV that he thought the structures might have been made by “a new wave artist” or someone who was a fan of the Stanley Kubrick movie was.

About the Romanian monolith, the mayor of Piatra Neamt, Andrei Carabelea, wrote on Facebook: “There is no need to panic for those who believe that there is still life in the universe.”

“I suspect that some extraterrestrial, naughty and terrible teenagers went away from home with their parents’ UFO and started planting metal monoliths all over the world,” the mayor said. “First in Utah and then in Piatra Neamt. I am honored that you have chosen our city. “

Speculation also followed the disappearance of monoliths.

Officials said the visitors flattened plants with their cars and left human waste behind.

Meanwhile, in the Californian city of Atascadero, authorities said the monolith had been torn down by a group of young men who had traveled five hours in the middle of the night to remove it.

“We’re upset that these young men felt the need to drive five hours to come into our community and destroy the monolith,” said Heather Moreno, the local mayor. “The monolith was something unique and fun in an otherwise stressful time.”
