Bhubaneswar: The LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is the proud recipient of the highly regarded “The Greenberg Prize – End Blindness 2020”. The winners were selected based on the strength of their contributions to the elimination of blindness. Dr. Gullapalli N Rao, founding chairman of the LV Prasad Eye Institute, received this award in the “Award for Excellence” category. LVPEI shares the award and $ 3 million prize with another organization in India.
“I am humbled and honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of over 3,000 members of the LV Prasad Eye Institute and its numerous supporters worldwide. Eliminating preventable blindness by 2020 has been an ambition of the global eye care community for over two decades. I would like to thank the Sanford and Susan Greenberg End Blindness Foundation for recognizing our contribution, “said an enthusiastic Dr. Gullapalli N Rao, founding chairman of the LV Prasad Eye Institute.

“End Blindness” was a movement to eradicate blindness initiated by Dr. Sanford Greenberg, who lost his eyes at the age of 19, and his wife Susan came into being. It was announced in 2012 that it would recognize the work of the scientific and medical communities that pioneered the fight against blindness between then and 2020.
