Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Indian team management should field the aggressive Rishabh Pant in place of Wriddhiman Saha as the wicketkeeper in the four-Test series against Australia starting on Thursday. Gavaskar, who completed the fastest 10,000 runs in Test cricket, said that Pant would give flexibility to the Indian batting order in the first Test. Pant scored 103 off 73 balls in the second practice match played with pink ball. Gavaskar said it would be tough for the selection committee as Rishabh played all four Tests four years ago. He had also scored a century and also performed well behind the wicket. Also, if he has scored a century a few days ago, then he should be the choice of management.
He said that he would prefer Pant instead of Saha who is technically more capable in wicketkeeping as Australian pitches are not challenging for wicketkeeping. He said that on the pitches where the ball takes a turn, the best wicketkeeper is needed and Saha would have been the first choice. But here the wicketkeeper may be a little behind the stumps and Rishabh will be the right choice if he has more time.

Both Gavaskar and Alan Border insisted on landing Shubman Gill with Mayank Agarwal instead of Prithvi Shaw for the start of the innings. Gavaskar said that the Indian top order is still unstable. Mayank Agarwal is an opener but who will come with him. Shubman Gill or Prithvi Shaw. Gill scored 0, 29, 43 and 65 in two practice matches while Shaw scored 0, 19, 40 and three runs.
Border said that I saw Gill batting in Sydney and I am very impressed. He has good technique and due to his age, some shots are immature but he is a good batsman. I will choose him only. Gavaskar said that Shaw will have to do some more work on his batting. The opener needs time to play the new ball well. He will have to strengthen his defense. He also said that he expected the best from Mayank Agarwal.
