The International Cricket Council released the test rankings on Tuesday. In the latest ranking, Indian captain Virat Kohli has reached the second position in the batsmen’s list. Apart from captain in the top-10, vice-captains Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are also named. Australia’s reigning batsman Steve Smith continues to reign. He is currently the number one Test batsman in the world with 911 points. Kohli, who comes in second order, is 25 points below him. Kiwi captain Kane Williamson came in at number three. Young Australian batsman Marnus Labushen comes in fourth, Pakistani captain Babar Azam fifth and injured sixth seed David Warner.

Cheteshwar Pujara is the seventh highest run scorer in the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Saurashtra strongman got 766 rating points. In Virat’s absence, it is probably Ajinkya Rahane who will take over the captaincy in the remaining three matches. Rahane’s inclusion in the top-10 before taking a big responsibility will be good for his confidence. Only two Indian players have got a place in the top-10 in bowling. Pesar Jasprit Bumrah (779) is eighth and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (756) is at the tenth position. Australian pacer Pat Cummins is the best bowler in the world with 904 points. Then comes England’s Stuart Broad and Kiwi paceman Neil Wagner.

In this list also, two players of Team India have managed to make the top-10. Ravindra Jadeja is at number three, ahead of him is West Indies captain Jason Holder. Ashwin is in sixth order. Talking about team rankings, India slipped to number three. New Zealand grabbed the second position, clearing the West Indies sweep. Australia is the number one team with 116 rating points, New Zealand has the same number of points. India are two points behind from both teams i.e. 114 points. Team India has a golden opportunity to move up the rankings as they have to play a four-match Test series with Australia from Thursday.
