NEW DELHI: India said Thursday it looks forward to seeing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson here next month Reports that the trip may not be possible due to the rapidly spreading mutant version of the coronavirus in the UK.
“We invited the UK Prime Minister to be the main guest in the Republic Day parade in 2021. When British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab was here, he had publicly confirmed his assumption. We look forward to seeing the Prime Minister here. ” Foreign Ministry speaker Anurag Srivastava said.
At a press conference, he was asked about reports that Johnson might not be able to travel to India next month.
British Foreign Secretary Raab was in India last week, ostensibly to prepare the ground for Johnson’s trip.
“The British Prime Minister has accepted the very generous invitation to take part in the celebrations for Republic of India Day (as the main guest) in January, which is a great honor,” Raab said at a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar.
