  • Google’s new Chromecast with Google TV will support Apple TV Plus in early 2021.
  • You can watch subscription shows, as well as your Apple movie purchases and channels.
  • However, Android phones are still out of luck.

You still can’t use Apple TV Plus on an Android phone, but that doesn’t stop Google from streaming it to the company’s own media streaming device. The search company has announced that the Apple TV Plus app will come to the Chromecast with Google TV in early 2021.

You have access to Apple TV Plus originals like Ted Lasso and Greyhound, Your purchases for Apple movies and TV shows, and any of your subscribed Apple TV channels. Google TV also inserts Apple’s originals into your recommendations, searches, and watchlist.

Apple TV Plus has already been introduced for Android TV, but mostly for Sony devices. More Android TV devices will be supported “in the future,” said Google.

Google thinks this could give the living room an edge. With Apple TV Plus, the Chromecast with Google TV is one of the few streaming devices that supports all of the major services – you don’t have to be picky about what you watch. It also happens just days after Google unveiled support for Apple Music on Nest speakers, suggesting a warmer relationship between the former rivals.

However, the announcement could be frustrating for some people. Apple TV Plus is available for a wide variety of non-Apple devices, including game consoles, dedicated boxes, and smart TVs. However, you cannot use it on an Android phone or tablet. That makes the service a tough sell if you don’t live in an Apple household and sometimes look beyond the TV.
