Barcelona celebrated a great La Liga win on Wednesday, coming from behind for the first time under Ronald Koeman to beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at Camp Nou. It was a fun game and that Blaugrana played well and probably should have scored more goals. Willian Jose gave La Real the lead but a curler from Jordi Alba and an easy finish from Frenkie de Jong secured all three points.
Barca had many chances in the first half and were left behind against the course of the game. Griezmann tried a cheeky volleyball that barely whistled in the first few minutes, while Pedri headed a good chance right in front of goal.
Real Sociedad then took the lead from a corner just before the half hour. The ball went to Portu, who slid the ball over the goal so Willian Jose could knock home on the far post.
The visitors’ lead was short-lived as Alba, in a way, equalized. Griezmann took the ball into the penalty area and returned the ball over the goal. Pedri just managed to touch Alba’s path and rolled him to the top corner.
The chances then flow on. Griezmann circled the goalkeeper and shot at the crossbar while Pedri Martin sent Braithwaite through but had only one big chance to shoot over the bar.
It was left to De Jong to put Barca in the front just before the break. The Dutchman tapped Alba’s deflected cross home from close range, but initially saw that his attempt was not offside. However, it was finally given after a VAR review found he was miles on the page.
The chances were still good after the break. Griezmann had two good chances to win against his former team at the beginning of the second half, but couldn’t use them either. In the second he somehow managed to win Remiro back with a gaping goal.
There was a short break in which the two teams made substitutions. Koeman decided to send Carles Alena and Francisco Trincao for the final 25 minutes, which gave Griezmann and Sergio Busquets a little respite.
Real Sociedad saw more of the ball and Pedri had to run over the goal to deny Alexander Isak. The teenager crashed heavily against the goal post and was able to get back on his feet, but was replaced by Miralem Pjanic in the last 15 minutes.
Visitors keep coming back when Barca wobbled in the closing stages. Nacho Monreal shot wide at the far post while Marc-Andre ter Stegen was needed for a great double stop with only six minutes of normal time.
But Barca managed to get an important win that puts them in fifth place in the table. It’s also the first time Barca have come from behind to win since Koeman took command.
