New Delhi:
The makers of Thalaivi unveiled new statues of Arvind Swami as former Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran, on Thursday, on the anniversary of the actor-turned-politician’s death. MG Ramachandran, affectionately known as MGR, was Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu for ten consecutive years (1977-1987). He died on December 24th, 1987. In loving memory of the late Prime Minister, Arvind Swami shared new look posters of himself as MGR and wrote: “It was not just an honor to play the role of Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, it was a great one I would like to thank director AL Vijay and producers Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh for their trust in me. I humbly post these images in Thalaivar’s memory today. #Thalaivi #MGR #ArvindSwamiasMGR. “
Thalaivi, Directed by AL Vijay, based on the story of the life of former Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa and starring Kangana Ranaut. MGR was a very important person in Jayalalithaa’s life and career, but more on that later.
First, take a look at pictures of Arvind Swami disguised as MG Ramachandran:

MG Ramachandran was like a mentor to J Jayalalithaa. After resigning from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party in 1972, he founded All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and rose to power again in 1977. He remained Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu until his death in December 1987.
Earlier this year, Kangana Ranaut revealed the first look of herself as Jayalalithaa and later shared several updates to her upcoming film. Look here:
The legend we know, but the story that has yet to be told!
