89th BCCI General Meeting on December 24th: What are the main talks?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be his 89th Annual General Meeting On Thursday in Ahmedabad, the Indian Premier League will dominate the agenda and raise some other important issues for discussion.

For the 2022 edition, two more teams are expected to be added, in front of which a mega auction is planned.

Venues of the T20 World Championship 2021

The T20 World Cup in 2021 will be hosted by India, and the BCCI has reportedly selected Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mohali, Dharamsala, Kolkata and Mumbai as potential host cities. However, BCCI members are likely to advocate giving more venues hosting rights to the Premier tournament.

Tax exemption for T20 World Cup

The BCCI and the International Cricket Council agreed on December 31st on the deadline for the full assurance of the tax exemption for the T20 World Cup. The tournament can be moved to the UAE if the BCCI does not receive a tax exemption from the Indian government.

Previous global events gave precedence over exemptions, current tax laws do not provide an exemption for a sporting event, and it will be interesting to see how the BCCI stands on this issue.

Elections for BCCI and IPL government posts

Former IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla is done to be unanimously elected BCCI Vice President, a position vacated earlier this year by Mahim Verma. In particular, Shukla, who served as vice president during N Srinivasan’s tenure, officiated during the friendly on Wednesday.

If the BCCI supports cricket at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, it could lose its autonomy as it falls under the remit of the Department of Sports as a national sports association with ongoing state interference.

Women’s cricket resumption

The Indian women’s team has not played a competitive game since the T20 World Cup final in Australia. Travel abroad will be postponed while the United Arab Emirates’ 2020 IPL was hosting a 4-match T20 challenge for women. The BCCI top group will likely discuss the resumption of women’s cricket, including the national season, at the general assembly.
