Some Americans are already vaccinated with BNT162b2, the vaccine developed by COVID-19 Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) and BioNTech (NASDAQ: BNTX). A second coronavirus vaccine could also get US approval very soon. In this Motley Fool Live The video recorded on December 11, 2020 Corinne Cardina, Head of the Health and Cannabis Office, spoke to immunotherapy scientist Dr. Leo Nissola on an important thing people need to know, what life could be like in a world after vaccination.
Corrine Cardina: What’s the biggest thing people need to know about a world after vaccination? I think you touched it with masks and social distancing. What do you think is the misunderstanding here when we get this vaccinated herd immunity?
Dr. Leo Nissola: First of all, I am very excited to be living in a post-vaccination world. I think we are very far from that. I think that next year, in early 2021, January, February and March we are going to have some very difficult months if we shouldn’t vaccinate all of them now and if we don’t have enough doses of the vaccines to do all of them, we will still get the incredible number of deaths and infections that we have seen. I lost a loved one to COVID so it’s personal to me too.
I think that in the post-COVID world we will be more careful not to come to the office when you are sick or have a cold because you never know what it is and now coronavirus has every single system in ours Society pressured and we have failed tremendously. We are unable to provide health care for everyone, we are unable to provide tests for everyone. We couldn’t prevent the coronavirus pandemic from turning into a deadly event.
I think if we can learn anything from this year we have to change our systems. We need to change the way we care for our employees, how people get their information, and how we can rebuild the trust we lost this year. I think in a post-COVID world, I initially expect a lot of people to still work from home. I still expect that many jobs that have been removed will continue to be completely removed, and I also expect that companies that provide services during the pandemic and do well during the pandemic will continue to perform well in the post-pandemic world .
Corrine Cardina: Great. Thank you, Dr. Nissola. I really appreciate that you took the time to talk about such a timely topic and we will definitely keep in touch and have you back with us soon.
Dr. Leo Nissola: Sure. Thank you for the invitation. Please stay safe and have a great vacation.
